COVID 19 UPDATES
- Recommencing church services at St D’s – the outside option.
Exciting times! The partial relaxation of lockdown restrictions means we can start to plan for live services again. From 2nd Nov we can have outdoor services for up to 20 people, plus celebrant.
As we work out the details of how we can do this and comply with common sense, government and diocesan requirements, we need an indication of your interest.
Subject to changes in the regulations, we are planning to recommence live services at 11am on Sunday 22nd Nov and Thursday 11 am on 19th Nov.
On Thursday we will limit it to 10 people, worshipping in the cloisters, and on Sundays, up to 20 people worshipping outside the church. The Thursday service will be also be zoomed into Camberwell Gardens.
We will need to ensure required separation of people and cleaning arrangements. Masks will of course be mandatory. We will continue with live streaming of the 9.30 am Sunday service.
Thank you to all those who have expressed their desire to attend one or both of the above services. There is still room available for both services so if you would like to come and haven’t yet told Roberta, please indicate by return email or phone Roberta on 0478 404 179 if you would like to attend either service.
Sunday 29th is Advent Sunday, the start of the New Year. Please stay tuned while we await clarification on how we will be allowed to run this service. We will also be having our Parish Annual Meeting at 11 am on this day. This will be done via Zoom likely but also possibly face to face. Again, please watch this space.
- We urgently need about 8 volunteers to cover at least 4 cleaning sessions per week. This includes before and after services on Thursdays and Sundays and we need to spread this commitment across a sizeable team. At the moment we have 3 faithful volunteers but this will become unsustainable for the minimum 4-6 times/week we need to clean, not counting special events like funerals. - Our Church stays alive through the contact of its people with one another. Let’s please keep in touch with each other through our groups and regularly uphold each other in prayer. We have Zoom groups for prayer, morning tea and book group. The details are all under ‘Parish News’. Thank you for also remembering and checking in on your ‘buddies’.
- If you are struggling with anything, please reach out to someone in the St Dunstan’s community. Notice of Annual Meeting
Parish of Camberwell, Church of St Dunstan’s.
The Annual Meeting of the Parish will be held on 29th November 2020 at 11.00am. Arrangements for this meeting will be determined soon in the light of COVID 19 permitted arrangements, which will be advised when known.
Nominations of candidates for the offices of:
- members of the Parish Council
- members of Incumbency Committee
shall be given to the Vicar, the Rev’d Roberta Hamilton,
on or before 8.00am on 22nd November 2020.
After prayers, the order of business shall include –
- The reading of this notice;
- The Minutes of the previous annual meeting;
- Reception of the electoral roll of the Parish;
- A report by the Vicar; including numbers of baptisms, persons received into communicant membership, confirmations, marriages, funerals, Sunday services, acts of communion and such other statistics from the registers as Archbishop in Council determines;
- An annual report on the proceedings of the Parish Council
- A report by the churchwardens on the fabric, goods and ornaments of the church, of the Parish and the vicarage and other buildings of the Parish;
(g) The independently examined accounts and financial statements of the parish and any accompanying papers required by the Act;
- The election and appointment of churchwardens and members of the Parish Council;
- The election of an independent examiner;
- The election of 2 lay representatives to the Parish Incumbency Committee;
- Any other matters of parochial or general church interest.

- Attached to this email is the nomination form for Churchwardens, Parish Council Members, and Incumbency Committee members. This form must be in the Vicar’s Hands before 8am on 22nd Nov. If the person nominated is unable to sign the nomination, there may be a statement signed by the proposer and seconder to the effect that the person nominated has consented to the nomination.
By way of explanation, the current Incumbency Committee (Chris Forte, Sally Cirulis and John McKenzie), remain as the active Committee until the next Vicar is appointed, however long that takes. This is because the replacement process commenced prior to the new elections.
Please note, church office bearers are required to have current clearances such as WWCC, Police checks – as specified by the diocese’s Professional Standards organisation. We can help you obtain these clearances.
- Please continue to pray for our Incumbency Committee as they undertake this important work of finding a new vicar for our parish. Please also remember Vicar Roberta in your prayers as she approaches her retirement from parish ministry.
- Parish Council has decided to cancel the Christmas Market this year. We are saddened we are unable to run this annual event but given the uncertainty of the current climate, we have little choice.
- Christmas Services this year will be the 5pm Crib Service on Christmas Eve and the Christmas Morning Service at 9.30am. Details of the format of these 2 services will be decided closer to the date when we know more of what we can and can’t do with Covid restrictions.
- We will be having a Confirmation Service on the 6th December at 9:30 am with Bishop Genieve Blackwell where Freddy and Charlotte Petersen will get confirmed. Again, the format of this service will be communicated to you closer to the date.
- Don’t forget our prayer wall in the church porch. You can use it to post prayer requests or pray for those already on there. Many people in our neighbourhood visit our church grounds and stop to read your prayers. So please feel free to add your prayer the next time you walk or drive past our church. Alternatively, email your prayers to Vicar Roberta and she will put them up on the wall.
- If you would like to join in Morning Prayer via Zoom each Tuesday and Thursday with a small group, please contact Trevor at email@example.com. All are welcome!

As a member of the Canterbury Council of Churches, we are being invited by St Dominic’s Asylum Seeker Support Program to share our support and aspirations in providing support for people seeking asylum.Some information from them below:
Support for asylum seekers, in various ways, has been a priority across our network, and there have been various forms of cooperation between our various churches over the years. So, as we face ongoing issues and needs in changing times, this topic is one where it could be fruitful for us to share our current situation and current thinking. Moreover, asylum seekers are among those in our community who have a particularly difficult time at the moment. Many are in crowded and insecure housing; many do not qualify for any of the income support benefits; and all are faced with the uncertainties relating to their future in Australia but also their options elsewhere. It is therefore important that we do not lose our focus on support for these near neighbours.
St Dominic’s Asylum Seeker Support Program would like to invite people from the various congregations to gather one evening to share information on our current aspirations and endeavours, and thus to inform and inspire each of us to continue to do what we can to support these vulnerable families in our midst.

- A message from our Child Safe Officer Max Farrar:
Following on from recent training and some Diocesan clarifications, our parish Child Safe documents have been updated.
We have a white folder on the welcome table which contains relevant policy and code of conduct documents regarding Child Safe and what to do if we have a necessity to make a report.
Posters have also been placed on the notice board with more to come from Kooyoora (Diocesan professional standards body) eventually.
Please ensure you update your Working with Children check cards when it’s time and advise Maxine Farrar when this has been done. All police checks will need to be renewed next year. Everyone will be contacted with the instructions.
Thank you in anticipation. Even though we’re not business as usual, our compliance requirements are. Luckily we’re on the ball.

Covid Normal: this week’s message from Archbishop Philip Freier
Do you have experiences of domestic abuse? Do you or did you previously have a connection with an Anglican Church?
The purpose of this anonymous survey is to explore experiences of domestic and family violence –specifically “intimate partner violence” (IPV) – for those with current or previous connections with Anglican churches. Further, if you sought help from an Anglican church, what was this experience like?
The survey will focus on intimate partner violence*, which is a serious and widespread problem in Australia, with enormous individual and community impacts and social costs.
Church communities are not immune to intimate partner violence, and there have been mixed responses from churches – both helpful and harmful. The Anglican Church hopes to learn more from Australians about their experiences in order to make better responses to foster safer family environments.
